This album is about inspiration - something Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan finds not only in an uncompromising dedication to his own music, but also in the example of the beloved past masters Ustad Amir Khan, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ustad Vilayat Khan. Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan has studied and synthesized the musical possibilities opened by these three geniuses to nourish his own unique musical vision.
The pieces performed here by Ustadji are considered signature raags for each of the three greats respectively. The dark joy of the rain raag Megh, suited perfectly Ustad Amir Khan's baritone voice, while Hameer provided Ustad Bade Ghulam a musical field on which he could playfully evoke the raag’s sublime sweetness. Finally, in the majestic architecture of raag Shahana the gifted hands of Ustad Vilayat Khan lifted the sitar to heights previously unknown.
These musical stories are now masterfully retold in the voice of the sitar maestro for our time, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. Tabla accompaniment is provided by the talented Shri
